What Arkansas had to do

Facing the Tulsa Golden Hurricane tends to not be the greatest marker as to where an SEC West football program is at. However, the Razorbacks clearly needed a confidence boost after a rough go at things in the SEC of late. Arkansas went through a very deflating loss last week where the Ole Miss Rebels came from behind to win in Little Rock.

If nothing else, this squad had to come out with a renewed spirit at home to pick up the second win of the season and start to move forward under this new coaching regime. That could also help the Razorbacks build up enough momentum to claim at least one win in the SEC this season. By now, that win would likely have to come against either the Vanderbilt Commodores next week or the Mizzou Tigers in the regular season finale.

Kelly Bryant would have a positive impression heading into this Arkansas football program if he saw a nice string of performances from here on out. A shutout victory over the Golden Hurricane was certainly a good way to start. That also came at a time when Arkansas was dealing with a slew of injuries on both sides of the ball.

It seems like the performance on the field was only part of the significance of this visit for Bryant. He’s tracing his connection with Chad Morris back to his days with Clemson and re-establishing that chemistry should’ve been one of the main goals off of the field. Bryant is looking for a renewed opportunity away from the ACC, and this is one that caught his eye immediately.
