Smart, talented and dangerous would be three key words to describe Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson. Over his 36-game career, Thorson has thrown for over 9,400 yards with 53 touchdowns for a team that is run-first under Pat Fitzgerald.

Thorson has shown some signs of trouble this year in his return from an injury that forced him to miss the end of last season. He finished his junior season with 2,844 yards and 15 touchdowns, numbers just down from a sophomore campaign that included 3,182 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Through seven games this season, Thorson is completing a career-high 61 percent of his throws for 1,905 yards and nine touchdowns. He has been picked off seven times and has 37 career interceptions.

Like many others in the current group of quarterbacks, Thorson has good size at 6-foot-4 and 226 pounds. He ran for almost 400 yards his first year, but has been limited since due to sacks, though he does have 20 career rushing touchdowns.
