ACC Football entered a Week 8 with a matchup between the top two teams on the schedule. How would Clemson vs NC State affect the title picture?

ACC football had four teams on a bye this week but that didn’t stop the rest of the conference from providing quality games to determine contenders and pretenders.

Clemson and North Carolina State went head to head with the winner in the driver seat for the college football playoff. The other games had some very surprising results as well.

Let’s take a look at our Week 8 power rankings for the ACC Conference.

Louisville had a bye this week and didn’t do any more damage to this horrible start to the season. Bobby Petrino’s job may still be in jeopardy and this week the Cardinals face Wake Forest in a battle of bottom dwellers in the conference.

The Tar Heels put up a valiant effort against Syracuse pushing the Orange to overtime before eventually falling 40 to 37. The defense is still a sore spot for this team as they allow the backup quarterback to throw the game-winning touchdown pass. North Carolina faces Virginia this week and they could be looking at the six loss of the season.

Wake Forest continues to play inconsistently as the season progresses. A close game against Boston College early in the season made them a potential surprise team in the conference, but their matchup against Florida State had them crashing down to our earth. The ground game will need to work on opening up holes for the running backs as they ran for just 96 yards in the loss.
