In Week 8 of college football, the majority of the favored teams ended up winning. However, there were at least three games that took many of us by surprise.

One of the greatest aspects of college football is how unpredictable and exciting the games can be on any given Saturday. Most weeks we have about two or three huge upsets and a handful of other games where a struggling team gets a big win over a better team.

In Week 8 of college football we did not see many of these games. Nearly every team with the better record of the two, won the game. However, there were three games that would be considered to be bad losses, based on the opponent and the differences in performance.

3. Minnesota vs Nebraska

Minnesota is responsible for allowing Scott Frost to get his first win at Nebraska. So this may be more about Nebraska winning than Minnesota losing. Nebraska entered the game 0-6 where the Golden Gophers were 3-3. Although Minnesota was favored, some of us (me) were absolutely certain the Cornhuskers were going to win this game.

But, what was totally unexpected, was how badly Nebraska was going to beat the Gophers. At one point in the second quarter, the Cornhuskers were winning 28-0. Minnesota looked like they were going to make a push for a comeback at the start of the second half. However that quickly changed in the fourth quarter when Nebraska scored 17 points compared to Minnesota’s six.

Nebraska quarterback, Adrian Martinez, had his best game of the year, completing 25 of his 29 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Nebraska has a long way to go, but Martinez looks to be a great way forward for Scott Frost and the Cornhuskers.
