The road to the College Football Playoff could be dangerous for Notre Dame football without making some key adjustments out of the bye week.

The dream season that Notre Dame football fans have hoped for, and appeared to have for a part of the 2017 campaign, is panning out with only the stretch run of the regular season left in 2018. Yet, there are some clear similarities between the start to this season for the Fighting Irish and how last year transpired.

Although, Notre Dame football did have some concern heading into its bye week during Week 8 coming off a near upset loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Panthers. One drive separated Pitt from pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the season. Instead, the Irish were able to hang on for the one and stay undefeated.

At this point, some of Notre Dame’s biggest wins are looking very impressive. Defeating the Michigan Wolverines in the season opener is now appearing great after it defeated the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans in Big 10 play of late.

Making the switch under center from senior Brandon Wimbush to junior Ian Book was one of the best moves that any team in College Football Playoff contention now made in 2018. Head Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly has to get some credit for the timing of that decision.

Notre Dame is so close to the finish line with an undefeated record and a looming Playoff berth. It would be the first Playoff appearance in program history too.

Here’s a look at the three shakeups that should happen for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish coming out of the bye week despite the undefeated start.
