West Virginia Football: 3 bold predictions for Baylor in Week 9 bout
Coming off its first loss of the year, West Virginia football will face a resurgent Baylor team in a crucial Big 12 bout on Thursday night.
How does a team come back from a 30-14 defeat, its first of the season, where the offense suffered its worst performance of the year and conference title hopes took a hit? For West Virginia, it must showcase a short-term memory because the Mountaineers still have plenty to play for, including a playoff berth.
Fresh off a bye week, the Mountaineers just need to get back to the basics and Will Grier must get back on track after passing for just 100 yards against the Cyclones.
Dana Holgorsen’s team has the talent to compete with Oklahoma and Texas for the Big 12 title, and Thursday night’s contest against Baylor will be a crucial matchup for the Mountaineers and their confidence.
It’s time to be bold ahead of Thursday night’s Big 12 showdown — and potential shootout.
3. West Virginia won’t be able to stop Baylor’s offense
Just like Baylor’s defense, West Virginia’s has struggled to stop opposing aerial attacks. Charlie Brewer has been fantastic this season, for the most part, and that will continue against the Mountaineers in Week 9.
Though he won’t quite keep up with Will Grier, as you’ll later find out, Brewer is going to give the West Virginia defense fits, passing for 300 yards and giving the Bears a fighting chance in this one.
It won’t be so much Baylor’s run game, which averages about 162 yards per game, but rather the passing attack that will keep it in the game.
No one is giving Baylor much of a chance, but Denzel Mims and Jalen Hurd will have big games and they’ll come up with clutch reception after clutch reception, matching just about every touchdown the Mountaineers score.
