With Ohio State’s loss to Purdue, and Michigan’s win over Michigan State, Big Ten Football has a new top dog and it isn’t the Buckeyes.

Every Big Ten team was in action this past Saturday, with seven games of conference play. And although just two of the games were decided by less than 10 points, it was still a memorable week for the Big Ten. We saw Wisconsin win in the sun and in the snow, all in the same game. Michigan took down in-state rival Michigan State, and if not for their “Sparty Special”, probably would’ve been shut out. Oh, and Nebraska picked up their first win of the season and boy was it a big one.

But the biggest game of Week 8 was Purdue upsetting Ohio State. During the preseason, some labeled this as a trap game for the Buckeyes, and with Purdue winning three straight heading into the game, an upset was already beginning to brew before the coin toss. And it wasn’t like they upset them and the game was close. Purdue dropped 49 points on the Buckeyes and only allowed one of the nation’s best scoring offenses to put up 20 points. This game showed several things: Purdue is a good football team and could win out to end the season. And Ohio State is still a top team, but often plays inconsistently.

Only nine Big Ten teams play in Week 9 but there should be some great games. Purdue looks to stay hot as they face a struggling Michigan State team. Wisconsin goes on the road to battle Northwestern for the top spot in the Big Ten West. And No. 18 Iowa travels to Happy Valley to take on No.17 Penn State.

But before Week 9 happens, take a look at our updated Big Ten Football Power Rankings:
