In what may have been the least productive week of the season, everything seemed to go exactly as planned. How does SEC football shape up?

Week 8 was less than exciting. Even the Mississippi State trip to Death Valley was overall a snooze fest. How much changed after a disappointing week that saw a lot of bye weeks and a “rivalry” that really wasn’t that much of a competition?

Let’s get right into power rankings, y’all, starting at the bottom.

The Razorbacks don’t move up, even after beating Memphis 23-0 in Week 8. At this point, a win like that is a participation trophy for a team that hasn’t done much but disappoint this season. They still sit at 0-4 in conference and it doesn’t look to get any better as they face off against Vanderbilt this week. The game may be at home and while that could mean something for another team- it just doesn’t win you haven’t given your fans a reason to show up.

Sorry Arkansas, it may be time to give up on this season and start counting down to…well I’m not even sure what you have to look forward to at this point.

The Rebels don’t move either after a loss to Auburn and a disappointing season as a whole. Is 5-3 all that bad? No, I guess not. Though it is the nature of those wins and losses that have the Rebels so low in the power rankings. Part of it, of course, is the lack of having something to truly play for as they are ineligible for post season play. The other part is a lack of defense and now the loss of star wide out DK Metcalf that may be the nail in the coffin for the Rebels.

Ole Miss has a bye week in Week 9, so without complete and utter chaos, the Rebels likely won’t move around much in the coming week.
