2. Boston College “D” delivers

The Golden Eagles have had their struggles on the defensive side of the ball this year, but on Friday night, they shined bright. Boston College claimed the “turnover chain” with two picks from Hamp Cheevers and Taj-Amir Torres.

Miami accounted for just 149 yards passing and 141 yards rushing, failing to score in the second half. The Golden Eagles forced two turnovers, held the Hurricanes to just 8-for-17 on third-down attempts and stopped them on all three fourth-down tries on the night.

The secondary shined even bigger than just the two interceptions, as Miami averaged just 3.9 yards per pass attempt. Of the last five drives by the Hurricanes, just one went for over 20 yards, as three ended on downs, one on a pick and the fourth on a punt.

Boston College also won the special teams battle, as punter Grant Carlson buried all four of his punt attempts inside the 20. He averaged 36 yards per kick, with Colton Lichtenberg booting through two field goals and all three of his extra-point attempts.
