Clemson Football: 3 takeaways from ACC rivalry win vs. Florida State

1. Going with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback was right decision
When Dabo Swinney first announced that true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence was taking over as the starting quarterback for Kelly Bryant, it seemed like a potentially risky call. Bryant immediately opted to sit the rest of the season and preserve his eligibility for a transfer. Then, in his first game after the decision, Lawrence was knocked out early with an injury.
But Lawrence continues to vindicate the decision by the coaching staff at Clemson. In the blowout of the Seminoles, the freshman put up another huge day throwing the ball. Lawrence finished 20-of-37 for 314 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He added one carry for six yards and avoided pressure all day long.
Between his lightning-fast delivery, prototypical size, and ability to scan the field quickly and find the open man, Lawrence has proven a revelation for Clemson this season. While Bryant brought more to the table in terms of his dual-threat ability, Lawrence has by far the superior arm.
To get over the hump and reach the next level, Clemson needed a dynamic quarterback who could challenge defenses with his arm. That is exactly what Lawrence has brought to the table for Swinney’s squad.
