Georgia Football: Bulldogs best Florida to seize control of SEC East
Georgia football pulled away in the fourth quarter to take down the Florida Gators 36-17, putting themselves in the driver’s seat in the SEC East.
The annual rivalry game between Georgia and Florida was a back and forth affair until the Bulldogs pulled away late to seize control of the SEC East race.
Coming off of a loss to LSU two weeks ago, Georgia was in desperate need of a win in order to keep their hopes alive in the College Football Playoff race, and the Bulldogs earned a resounding victory over the rival Gators on Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville.
A pair of Georgia touchdowns, a Jake Fromm pass to Terry Godwin and a D’Andre Swift run, sandwiched around a Florida punt, allowed Georgia to pull away in the final frame to a 36-17 victory.
Georgia still has a critical game left with Kentucky next week that will decide the SEC East regardless of the finish to the Kentucky/Missouri game, but the Bulldogs took a giant step toward making a return trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.
Florida has overachieved in Dan Mullen‘s first season, and it was clear that they just ran out of gas down the stretch against a Georgia program with superior depth. The Gators were unable to overcome three turnovers, and are now likely eliminated from the SEC East race.
With the divisional race, and College Football Playoff race, becoming a little bit clearer after this result, here are three takeaways from Georgia’s win:
