College Football Playoff Rankings 2018: Top 25 projections for Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
National attention shifts to the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2018. Here is what the committee Top 25 rankings will look like on Tuesday.
While the Associated Press and the Coaches Poll will continue to put out their weekly rankings as they have for decades, there is really only one list that matters when it comes to the College Football Playoff era.
That, of course, is the list produced each week by the College Football Playoff selection committee. Where a team falls on that list helps determine the course of the entire postseason. Beyond reaching the top four and playing in one of the two semifinal bowl games, the committee’s list helps determine who goes to the rest of the New Year’s Six bowls.
That includes teams in the Group of Five mid-major conferences, several of which will show up on the committee’s first list of teams this week.
It was an uneven week, as several matchups featured teams ranked in the AP Top 25 playing one another. There were also handful of key contenders on their bye weeks in Week 9, which will likely lead to some recency bias among the selection committee.
So what will the selectors’ Top 25 look like when the list is finally released on Tuesday evening? Keep reading for our projections as we shift focus from the AP Top 25 to the College Football Playoff Top 25.
