College Football Playoff Rankings 2018: Top 25 projections for Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
Virginia played their way into the College Football Playoff rankings this week and control their own fate in the ACC Coastal this year. With a 31-21 win over North Carolina in Week 9, the Cavaliers finished the weekend as the only two-loss team left in the division. As a result, they will jump ahead of rival Virginia Tech and claim one of the last spots in the Top 25 this week.
Cavaliers quarterback Bryce Perkins has been a huge reason for the Virginia resurgence in 2018. Originally an Arizona State recruit, injuries sent Perkins down the junior-college route and into the arms of Bronco Mendenhall’s crew in Charlottesville. Perkins threw for 217 yards and rushed for 112 yards against the Tar Heels while having a hand in all four Virginia touchdowns.
Virginia’s next test comes at home against a Pitt team that is always good to play spoiler at least once or twice a season. If they win that game, the season-ending showdown for state bragging rights against Virginia Tech will also likely decide the division.
