Texas tried their hardest to pull off a comeback in Stillwater, but the No. 6 Longhorns suffered their second loss just ahead of the release of the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 25 rankings for the first time this season on Tuesday. The Longhorns dug themselves a hole early, then ran out of time as they fell 38-35 on the road.

Sam Ehlinger played through the pain of a lingering shoulder injury, throwing for 283 yards and two scores on 22-of-42 passing and adding another two rushing touchdowns and 47 yards on the ground in the defeat. Texas fell apart on defense, as they gave up more than 500 yards to the Cowboys in the loss.

Tom Herman’s team now must rebound quickly. West Virginia comes to Austin next weekend for a game that could decide which of the two plays Oklahoma for the conference title in December. A win over the Mountaineers would boost the Longhorns right back up near the top 10.
