Week 9 of the 2018 college football season has come to a close. Upsets filled the ranks and both Mike Leach and Mike Gundy had interesting moments.

After weeks of turmoil, Week 9 stayed rather status quo. Clemson and Notre Dame stayed undefeated while Alabama and Ohio State had bye weeks at just the right time. OSU needed a break after their loss to Purdue and Alabama needed time to prepare for their biggest test of the year so far in LSU. Also in the SEC Georgia, who still has playoff hopes, knocked off Florida at the Cocktail Party.
Clemson demolished Florida State 59-10 while Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdowns. Notre Dame beat Navy 44-22 as Ian Book averaged 10 yards per passing attempt and threw two touchdowns. The Bulldogs just got by the Gators 36-17 in a game that was closer than the final score. Jake Fromm looked NFL ready tossing three scores and averaging 10 yards per attempt against a really good Gator defense.
Few true upsets happened in Week 9 as opposed to previous weeks. Arizona did put a beat down on Oregon but Oregon might have taken on the Leach effect at this point of the season and fallen downhill since the loss to Wazzou. Oklahoma State did what Mike Gundy‘s Cowboys always do- found a way to turn out chicken salad on a weird 2018 with a win over Texas. Cal upset Washington as the Huskies are falling apart in 2018, and Mississippi State pulled off the upset over Texas A&M, too.
To the casual eye there might’ve been a couple of other upsets as Northwestern beat Wisconsin, Kansas beat TCU, and Houston beat USF. If you haven’t been paying close attention to college football this season the results caught your attention. If you have, you weren’t surprised by those scores in the least; well maybe an eye brow did raise. Penn State held on over Iowa 30-24 to stay in the Big Ten race but two loss teams are currently on the outside.
Here are three takeaways from Week 9.
