Oklahoma State Football got off to a fast start and then held on for an upset of No. 6 Texas, exposing the Longhorns as pretenders in the playoff race in the process.

Oklahoma State started hot, and held off a frantic second-half rally by the sixth-ranked Longhorns on Saturday night in Stillwater, bouncing back from losing three of their last four games with a 38-35 win over Texas.

Oklahoma State got off to a hot start with Mike Gundy setting an aggressive tone from the outset. The Cowboys got points on five of their seven first half possessions, four of which went for touchdowns.

Quarterback Taylor Cornelius scored all four of Oklahoma State’s first half touchdowns, throwing three and running in another. Cornelius added a rushing touchdown in the second half, a 10-yard scamper with 5:44 to play that ended up being the deciding score.

Tom Herman‘s Longhorns fought back in the second half after falling behind 31-14 at the half, bottling up the ‘Pokes’ high-powered offense and scoring 14 unanswered points on two Sam Ehlinger touchdown passes to cut the lead to three prior to Cornelius’ fourth quarter touchdown run.

The loss likely ends Texas’ hopes of getting into the College Football Playoff, but the game has implications that stretch further than just Austin or Stillwater. Here are three takeaways from Oklahoma State’s upset win:
