Oklahoma State Football: Cowboys expose Texas in Stillwater
2. Oklahoma State remembered who they are
The Cowboys seemed like a potential threat in the Big 12 race early on this season after a 44-21 rout of Boise State in Stillwater. Mike Gundy’s team lost three of their next four, however, including blowout defeats at the hands of Texas Tech and Kansas State.
The team lost their way, and officially hit rock bottom two weeks ago in a 31-12 loss to Kansas State in the Little Apple.
Mike Gundy spent the bye week making adjustments and got back to a more aggressive style of play, helping to lead his ‘Pokes to a win over Texas.
Oklahoma State jumped on Texas early, racking up 378 yards of offense in the first half alone, racing out to a 31-14 lead at the half. Texas battled back as Oklahoma State slowed the tempo down from the frantic first half pace, but the Cowboys were able to hang on to the win.
Those three losses will almost certainly prevent Oklahoma State from making it to the Big 12 title game, but Gundy’s bunch certainly has the ability to play spoiler down the stretch. They’ve already knocked off Texas, and they have games remaining at Oklahoma and at home against West Virginia that could be pivotal in the conference race.
In the very least, this win almost secures bowl eligibility for Oklahoma State, something that would have been dicey with a loss this weekend.
