College Football Playoff: Longhorns fall, Wildcats rise in New Year’s Six projections
Following the Texas Longhorns’ loss in Week 9, the Kentucky Wildcats claim the vacant spot in our College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six Projections.
Week 9 of the 2018 college football season was a wild one. With several New Year’s Six and conference implications on the line, we saw teams come up with big wins while others had some setback losses.
After winning six-straight games, the Texas Longhorns loss 38-35 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, putting them in a “win out” situation to make a New Year’s Six bowl game. This same fate came to the Florida Gators, who took a 21-point beating from the Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs on the other hand, showed why their capable of making not just any New Year’s Six bowl game, but the one of the two that actually matter. Joining the Bulldogs in victory were Penn State and Washington State, who also came away with big conference wins to keep their NY6 hopes alive.
As of right now, there are only about 15-20 teams that have a real chance of making one of the six bowl games, and Week 10 could be an elimination game for some of those teams:
- The Kentucky Wildcats look to keep their NY6 hopes alive as they host the Georgia Bulldogs.
- The Texas Longhorns and West Virginia Mountaineers go head-to-head in a pivotal Big 12 conference matchup.
- The Penn State Nittany Lions head to Ann Arbor to battle the Michigan Wolverines.
- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the upset-minded Northwestern Wildcats.
- The Alabama Crimson Tide face their toughest test yet, as they go on the road to play the LSU Tigers.
