The 2018 Heisman Trophy race is shaping up to focus on the top quarterbacks in the country as we head into November. Does one Wazzu passer have a chance?
The 2018 Heisman Trophy has looked like it will be Tua Tagovailoa’s to lose, but there are other quarterbacks on top 25 teams looking to make their own case for hoisting college football’s most prestigious trophy.
While the main running back’s on our list struggled this week, we saw a new quarterback jump into the top five as he puts up numbers and his team racks up big wins. Before we look at our top five let’s take a look at the honorable mentions this week.
No. 7: Travis Etienne, Running back- Clemson Tigers
This was Etienne’s first game of the season where he did not find the end zone. Going up against an inconsistent Florida State defense he ran the ball just 10 times for 45 yards. The passing game did most of the damage but it was still surprising to see him not score. Next up is a matchup against Louisville and since the Cardinals are one of the worst teams in the conference he should bounce back in a big way.
No. 6: Ed Oliver, Defensive Tackle- Houston Cougars
Ed Oliver and Houston had the week off so he wasn’t able to put up any outstanding numbers. Oliver is still on pace to have a 100 tackle season as he’s averaging nine per game to go along with his five and a half sacks on the season. They face SMU this week, and although the Mustangs have a strong rushing attack Oliver should dominate and help Houston pick up the easy victory.
Now that we looked at were honorable mentions let’s take a look at our top five this week.
