Even with a sour ending to October, Iowa football still managed to legitimize their conference title aspirations. Can they continue their chase in November?

Iowa ended their September with a stinging loss to a Wisconsin team that now looking back in retrospect, was not better than the Hawkeyes. However, Iowa did not let that bother them for long as the Hawkeyes took out their frustrations on Minnesota and Indiana in the first two weeks in October, outscoring the two teams by a total of 90-47. In that two-game stretch, Nate Stanley threw 10 touchdown passes. However, Iowa’s dominating October finished on a sour note, as they could not get it done on the road against Penn State.

Even though Iowa is sitting with two conference losses, their chances of getting to Indianapolis are still pretty high. The Hawkeyes currently sit in a three-way tie for the Big Ten West for second place with Wisconsin and Purdue. The current division leader, Northwestern, travels to Kinnick Stadium to take on Iowa on Nov. 10. Iowa travels to Purdue this weekend and can put an end to the Boilermakers hopes for a division championship once and for all as well.

This November sets up to be one of the most intriguing months in Kirk Ferentz’s tenure, with the West not having one clear leader and coming off a loss to Penn State that was disheartening to many fans. Ferentz will show if he can rally the troops and finish out strong ala 2008, or if they will crash and burn like 2010.
