Arizona football has erased fears of a lost season and thrust themselves into the Pac-12 South Championship picture. Their latest victim? Colorado.

Things change quickly in college football. That’s why it’s almost impossible to write a team off in September. As tempting as it was to put the 2018 Arizona football season out to pasture, those that did (me) might have been acting too quickly.

Since losing their first two games to BYU and Houston the Arizona Wildcats have won five of their next eight including their most recent victory over Colorado. The Buffs started the season 5-0 before dropping four straight, their latest coming in a Friday edition of #Pac12AfterDark in Tuscon.

There could not be a clearer admonition against early judgments than these two squads who at this point look to be two ships passing in the night. Khalil Tate looks healthy again and the injuries suffered by the array of Colorado pass catchers make it hard to have much optimism for that unit going forward.

What did we learn about both of these squads in their Week 10 showdown in the desert?

1. Arizona has a real shot to win the Pac-12 South

Yes, that same Arizona that began the season 0-2 is now 5-5. Their 4-3 record sits a half game behind Utah pending their Week 10 game against Arizona State. The Utes hold the tiebreaker over Arizona, defeating them 42-10 in Salt Lake City. But given the narrow margin for error, the Wildcats are still in the mix.

Two games separate the first place Utes (4-2) from the last place Buffs (2-4). Several weeks remain in the 2018 season, making every team mathematically eligible to win this division.
