Georgia Football: 3 takeaways from big SEC East win over Kentucky
By Dana Becker
The stable of running backs that Georgia football has acquired paid off Saturday, as D’Andre Swift had a career day to lead the Bulldogs over Kentucky, 34-17.
With the win, Georgia clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game and kept hope alive for a return to the College Football Playoff after finishing as the runners-up a year ago to Alabama.
Swift, one of a handful of five-star recruits for Kirby Smart and company, racked up 156 yards and two touchdowns on just 16 carries against the Wildcats.
It was a tough day for Kentucky, which came into the contest ranked in the Top-10 in the first installment of the CFP rankings. They never really threatened the Bulldogs, falling behind 28-3 when Swift broke free on an 83-yard run.
Asim Rose and Terry Wilson connected on a 31-yard touchdown midway through the fourth to make it a two possession game, but Georgia leaned on its experience to salt things away.
The Bulldogs have just one league game left, as they host Auburn next week before finishing against UMass and Georgia Tech. All three games take place in Athens, with Georgia now 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC.
Kentucky will try to rebound on the road at Tennessee, as they are 7-2, 5-2. The Wildcats also close out of conference with Middle Tennessee State and Louisville on the docket.
