Syracuse football has taken massive strides as a program in 2018 with their latest big advancement coming with a win over Wake Forest in Week 10.

There are some teams that pound the rock. There are others that air it out. Syracuse sits somewhere in the middle as one of the few true balanced offenses left in the country. The Orange might not have one dominant pass catcher or running back, but they have enough talented players to stay one step of their opponents.

The one-step-ahead mentality was evident once again in the win over Wake Forest. The Orange led 14-10 after the first quarter and tacked on at least a field goal in each successive frame before time expired.

Quarterback Eric Dungey managed the offense well, setting up the Orange rushing attack for five touchdowns on the ground. He had 24 carries himself, running for 119 yards and one touchdown.

The defense did their part as well, forcing two fumbles and recovering both. As a result, Wake Forest never got anything going on offense. Star receiver Greg Dortch, who had torched a half dozen secondaries already this year, was limited to 95 yards and one touchdown. A modest performance, but not nearly enough to prop up the rest of the team around him.

Outside of a narrow loss to Clemson, this Syracuse squad has proven to be a competitive football team that could give Notre Dame some trouble in a few weeks.

Before that, Syracuse plays Lousiville in Week 11 who might still be reeling from the smackdown they received from Clemson on Saturday. Wake Forest will play NC State, a much more challenging opponent in an ACC Atlantic division that continues to prove it’s one of the toughest divisions in the country.
