The latest college football bowl projections got a bit clearer following a Week 10 that featured contenders making their College Football Playoff cases.

The two top 10 matchups of Week 10 turned out to be duds with both Alabama and Georgia asserting themselves as clear playoff contenders and clinching a national championship rematch in Atlanta for the SEC Championship on the first Saturday of December.

The status quo mainly held on statement Saturday across college football, but a few surprising results and upsets led to some changes in this week’s bowl projections.

For one, I am now projecting that there will be enough six win teams to cover the bowl allotments, and we might even have too many eligible teams at the end of the season, which is a drastic change from needing a pair of 5-7 teams to cover last week’s projections. That means there was no need to dig into the NCAA’s APR ratings this week, but things change quickly in college football.

The biggest shift of this week is that I’m projecting Virginia Tech to miss a bowl game, which would end their NCAA best 25 consecutive bowl trips. At 4-4, without rescheduling a canceled game against ECU from earlier in the season, the Hokies will need to win two of their final three games. They go to Pittsburgh next week, and then finish off the season with consecutive home games against Miami and Virginia.

Which teams jumped into this week’s bowl projections for the first time, and how does the New Year’s Six look this week?

Let’s dive into this week’s projections and find out:
