Kansas Football: Top 5 candidates to replace David Beaty
By Dana Becker
5. Les Miles
The biggest longshot on the list is Les Miles, who has not coached since leaving LSU during the 2016 season. And honestly, the further we get away from that, the less likely it is Miles returns to the sidelines at all.
But if Kansas wants to make a splash and generate headlines, they need to have a conversation with the 64-year-old about taking on the job. And what a job it would be.
Miles has been at some of the premier programs in the country since graduating from Michigan as an offensive lineman in 1975. He worked with the Wolverines, Colorado, Oklahoma State and the Dallas Cowboys before being hired as the head coach at Oklahoma State in 2001.
After a successful run there, Miles moved to LSU and led the school to the 2007 national title and another SEC crown. He is 141-55 in his career and posted a 62-28 record in the conference with the Tigers.
Miles never had trouble getting recruits to commit to LSU, which would definitely be a challenge at Kansas. But his name alone would get him in the door with many kids who would otherwise never even consider the school unless they were basketball players.
