West Virginia proves themselves against Texas, Texas Tech disappoints again, Kansas fires their coach (kinda), and more in this week’s Big 12 power rankings.

Welcome back to the weekly Big 12 power rankings here at Saturday Blitz, or as I like to call it, “ranking the unrankable”, because this conference makes absolutely no sense. Every week, nine teams can look anywhere from totally awesome to absolute trash, while Oklahoma barrels through whoever their opponent is (I know Texas beat them, it was a fluke, don’t @ me).

It’s stupid, and completely impossible to rank without contradicting results that happened on the field. Is Oklahoma State good? Is TCU? It’s impossible to say, because as soon as I do, they become the exact opposite of what I thought and do something dumb like, oh I don’t know, lose to Kansas. There are almost zero certainties in this conference from week to week, and while that does make for entertaining football, it’s also created a complete mess in the conference standings.

For example, Iowa State lost to one of the worst teams in the conference in TCU, and beat the second best team in West Virginia. Texas exists, and continues to exist, no matter how much we wish they wouldn’t. West Virginia is the least stable team of the bunch in a conference with Texas Tech in it. This is untenable.

Oh, and Kansas fired their coach. That was like the eighth wildest thing that happened this weekend. I’ll spoil one of my rankings here as we talk about Kansas, because shockingly, they’re still last this week. Hire Willie Fritz. Let’s do this thing.
