3. Sink, Florida, Sink
Florida, Florida State, Miami, FIU, and South Florida all lost in Week 10. Only two FBS Florida programs came away with a victory as Central Florida remained undefeated and struggling Florida Atlantic knocked off Florida International. The Florida Gators were throttled by Missouri to the tune of 38-17. Drew Lock threw three touchdowns against the Gators defense and the Gators played Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask at quarterback. Trask averaged seven yards per pass attempt while Franks could only muster 3.8 yards per throw.
The Seminoles have now had a play calling change on offense after a 47-28 beating from NC State. James Blackman provided an offensive spark averaging 9.2 yards per attempt and throwing four touchdowns against a good Wolfpack defense. FSU still couldn’t run the football averaging only 1.2 yards per carry as an elite talent like Cam Akers is wasted once again.
Miami lost to Duke at home by a score of 20-12 in a torrential downpour. Miami’s offense looked dead from their first snap and Duke broke a huge touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. Miami’s dual quarterbacks averaged four yards per passing attempt on the evening. Running back Deejay Dallas averaged 10.3 yards per carry but lost two fumbles to the Blue Devils. Miami has hit a recent low with a three-game losing streak and limited hope in sight.
FIU was caught off guard by Lane Kiffen’s FAU Owls and beaten down 49-14. Former Miami head coach Butch Davis could only get his quarterbacks to muster 6.9 yards per attempt while Kiffen’s passers averaged 9.8 and threw two touchdowns. The Owls ran for 439 yards and five touchdowns in a beatdown of the Golden Panthers. Charlie Strong’s USF Bulls lost big to Tulane 41-15 at home. The Green Wave averaged seven yards per carry and scored five rushing touchdowns against the Bulls.
The Central Florida Knights managed to remain undefeated after a scare from Temple. Josh Heupel went back to quarterback McKenzie Milton who scored four times (one rushing), still threw an interception and averaged 9.5 yards per passing attempt. The Knights defense gave up 670 yards to the Temple offense that lost to Villanova earlier in the season.
