1. The pretenders were knocked out

The LSU Tigers were knocked out of contention after dropping their second game of the season. Unless some wild and crazy stuff happens in the final stretch the Tigers won’t be playing for the national championship or the SEC Championship, either. Alabama seems to have a clear path to the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff. West Virginia and Will Grier decided to prove that Texas isn’t back as the Mountaineers beat the Longhorns in Austin 42-41.

Michigan throttled Penn State 42-7 as Trace McSorley and Mike Sanders looked pedestrian against Don Brown’s aggressive defense. Don Brown has made Jim Harbaugh look quite brilliant this season. The Bulldogs swatted away the plucky Kentucky Wildcats who were making a run at the SEC East crown proving UGA is still the top dog (puns). In a wide open Big Ten West Purdue beat Iowa 38-36.

Next. NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after Week 10. dark

Down in Texas SMU beat Houston 45-31 and Auburn knocked off Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M to prove the Aggies aren’t quite there yet. Nebraska gave Ohio State a close call and that proves the Buckeyes aren’t playoff bound unless they can knock off the Michigan Wolverines in the horseshoe.
