LSU was embarrassed on Saturday night in Baton Rouge by Alabama. For two weeks, Ed Orgeron and company talked a big game about standing toe-to-toe with the Crimson Tide, only to get thumped on their own field 29-0, never even feigning competitiveness against the top ranked challenger for Tuscaloosa.

LSU didn’t look like they belonged on the same field as a team of Alabama’s level, and somehow the Tigers only dropped four spots to No. 7. That shows you the level of respect the committee has for Alabama, and how big they think the gap is between Alabama and everyone else.

Obviously, LSU’s win over Georgia is incredibly impressive, but the committee also appears to be leaning on the Bayou Bengals’ victories over Miami and Auburn in September, despite those wins looking much less impressive now than they did at the time.

Keeping LSU in the Top 10 is one thing, but placing them at No. 7 ahead of Washington State and West Virginia makes little sense.
