4. Recruiting

A place that disappoints but flies under the radar for Oklahoma State football over the course of the actual season comes in the recruiting department. It’s hard to figure out why programs like Wisconsin and Oklahoma State were never able to capitalize in the success on the field and the vast amount of resources available to recruit at a higher level.

Oklahoma State has not finished above No. 34 in the national recruiting rankings since the 2014 class. Most of those finishes didn’t come very close to the top 35 classes in the nation either. Gundy is fantastic at developing offensive talent, but the depth especially on the defensive side of the ball is always hurt.

Since Oklahoma State is one of the top 25 most winning programs in the nation in the past decade, missing out on that capitalization on the recruiting trail is beyond frustrating. The push that this program needs to get over the hump could come from recruiting if that ever got a consistent spike in the coming years.

And, this issue with Oklahoma State football doesn’t stem from a lack of resources, fan support, or facilities. Oklahoma State has facilities that compete with any program in the nation and an ever-growing footprint and set of resources that should help to an immeasurable degree on the recruiting trail.
