Despite losing Ian Book for the week following a Northwestern win, Notre Dame football will be just fine against Florida State in Week 11.

Suffering an injury against Northwestern, Notre Dame’s star quarterback, Ian Book, has been ruled out for Saturday evening’s big matchup against Florida State in South Bend.

What does this mean? Well, essentially it means Brandon Wimbush is going to get another shot at starting under center for the first time since Week 3 when he was struggling to beat Vanderbilt seven days after sneaking by Ball State, but having a three-interception performance.

Should Notre Dame be worried?

If this Florida State matchup was on the road  Saturday night, I’d say yes. However, Florida State’s defense has been one of the worst in the country this season, allowing over 280 yards per game through the air. Wimbush isn’t going to have a huge passing game, but at least Brian Kelly can rest easy knowing that the Seminoles aren’t the best at taking advantage of so-so passers.

Sure, Book has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the country, but if there’s a defense that would be ideal to rest him against, it’s Florida State.

Unfortunately, Wimbush likely has no confidence at this point after watching Book take his job and strengthen his grip on it, but the Irish may have plenty of designed quarterback runs and he can even tuck and find some open space when nothing opens up.

The only true negative of this news besides losing a top-tier quarterback is the fact that the Irish will likely see their streak of 300-yard games snapped (it’s at two right now with Book).

Don’t fret, Irish fans, Wimbush will do just enough to get the team to 10-0, and it’ll likely be all with his legs — just like the Michigan game.
