After losing their chance at an SEC East title by falling to Georgia, Kentucky football looks to keep its New Year’s Six hopes alive vs. Tennessee.

When Georgia lost to LSU, there was a party of sorts in Gainesville and in Lexington. Both the Gators and the Wildcats were in place to compete for an East title now that the Bulldogs weren’t undefeated. However, Georgia was able to knock out them both — Kentucky being the most recent — on their way to an SEC East title. Now, Kentucky is battling for a berth into the New Year’s Six.

On the other side is Tennessee, a team that has been up and down all year and is still working on figuring out what their identity will be under new head coach Jeremy Pruitt. While the Volunteers haven’t been dominant, there is something brewing in Knoxville and the Vols could be back to contender status before long.

However, until that happens, here is how you can watch this matchup:

Keys to Victory

For the Wildcats, the biggest key is to not follow in the footsteps of the Florida Gators who dropped a game to Missouri after losing to Georgia. They need to look at their season and continue pushing for the goal of a good bowl game, which for a program like Kentucky is a big deal. Benny Snell will need to get going and Terry “Touchdown” Wilson will need to be the leader this team needs to succeed. Of course, the Wildcat defense will do what they do — don’t worry about them.

For Tennessee, they need to take advantage of the weaknesses of the Wildcat offense. The unit hasn’t been explosive all season and don’t tend to put up a lot of points. If they can score early and somehow get the best of the Wildcat defense, the Volunteers could knock off the Wildcats.

Prediction

While Tennessee has the ability and honestly the moxie to knock off Kentucky, they won’t pull it off. The game may be close, a lot closer than anyone really thinks it will be, but Benny Snell will put the game away for the Wildcats late. Terry Wilson will show that he does in fact the ability to make plays down field, though he will only make one or two. It’ll be enough for a Kentucky win though.

Final Score: Kentucky 28, Tennessee 17
