Boise State football turned around their halftime deficit to take down Fresno State on the Smurf Turf. Here are three things we learned from the Friday MWC showdown.
Boise State hosted Fresno State on Friday night in a rematch of last year’s Mountain West championship game. As they did last year on the Smurf Turf, the Broncos once again took down the Bulldogs in a 24-17 victory.
The loss will almost certainly knock Fresno State out of the College Football Playoff Top 25, but it could, in turn, serve to help vault Boise State into that picture. The Broncos are back in the MWC title picture, which opens the door for a possible return to a New Year’s Six bowl in 2018.
It was a back-and-forth thriller on Friday night, as the Broncos claimed an early lead in the first quarter. A second-quarter surge opened the door for the Aggies to lead at the intermission, but 21 unanswered points to close out the game helped Boise State pull off the victory.
A late sack sealed the deal with fewer than two minutes remaining. Pushed to the cusp of field goal range, the Bulldogs struggled to get back into the contest.
