Boise State Football: Broncos prevail at home against Fresno State

1. Alexander Mattison returns to prominence for Boise State offense
Alexander Mattison made a major difference on Friday night, providing the offensive balance with his legs that has been a hallmark of Boise State’s best performances of past and present. Mattison has struggled at times this year, but when he is at full strength there are few defenses capable of containing the runner.
In the battle against the Fresno State front seven, Mattison emerged as the backfield threat that he hasn’t always been in 2018. To pace Boise State to the victory, Mattison finished with 134 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 27 carries. He also added three receptions for 15 yards to feature as the top skill player on either side this week.
It was an eye-opening performance, as Mattison helped keep the chains moving from beginning to end. He notched the final first down that ensured the Broncos would walk away with the victory in regulation, punching the ball through the line on third down to give Boise State one more set of downs on Friday.
For Boise State to remain in the running for the MWC crown, they have to continue playing at a high level and grind down the clock with their ground game.
