3. Both Boise State and Fresno State are still in the Mountain West mix
The Broncos and Bulldogs could very well meet a second time this season, just as they did in 2017. After facing off in a close battle in Week 11, the two teams are still on course to square off in the MWC championship game at the beginning of December.
With the win at home, Boise State made sure to keep within one game of Utah State for the MWC Mountain lead. As long as the Broncos win in Albuquerque against New Mexico in Week 12, the Thanksgiving weekend showdown between Boise State and Utah State will serve as the division title game to see whether the Aggies or the Broncos go to the conference championship.
Similarly, Fresno State is still in the race for the MWC West crown. Last year’s division winner lost the margin of error that they enjoyed, but next week’s home date against San Diego State will give Fresno State the chance to beat the Aztecs and win the head-to-head tiebreaker for the division crown.
With everything beginning to lean in favor of these two teams, a rematch seems less and less outlandish to imagine with each passing week. The next fortnight will be critical to see if a rematch comes to fruition.
