Notre Dame football didn’t skip a beat despite the loss of quarterback Ian Book, dominating Florida State in a 42-13 win.

Considering the implications of tonight’s game, it appeared as if Ian Book’s rib injury had come at the worst possible time. In line to face one of the nation’s most susceptible secondaries, Book was poised to have a career day. However, there was reason for concern as the former starter and run-first quarterback Brandon Wimbush looked to face one of the nation’s toughest defensive fronts.

Nevertheless, Wimbush benefited from some early momentum, converting a Nick Coleman interception into a Miles Boykin touchdown. Florida State couldn’t stay out of its own way early, allowing the Irish to keep their playoff hopes alive deep into the 2018 season.

Notre Dame was never really tested in this one. Regardless of who was in at quarterback for the Irish, Florida State never really stood a chance. Willie Taggart’s squad appeared overmatched from the gun, falling to a Notre Dame team that was still firing on all cylinders.

Here are three takeaways from Notre Dame’s last home game of the year.
