Texas A&M Football: Aggies regain swagger with win over Ole Miss
By Shelbie Warr
Texas A&M football picked up their first home win against an SEC West opponent in three years, defeating Ole Miss to clinch bowl eligibility.
This game was anything but pretty for both sides. It was plagued with injuries, penalties and all out dumb play calls. At times it looked like either team could find a way to win, but it was the Aggies that were ultimately able to put everything in place late to find a win to push them to bowl eligibility for the 10th straight season.
What did we learn about both squads in the Aggies’ victory?
3. Ole Miss’ defense played well, in the first half.
The Ole Miss Rebels were not going to let this game be a blowout and their defensive effort in the first half and the first like five minutes of the second showed exactly that. They had two turnovers, one of which came with a touchdown for the Rebels, at the start of the third quarter. After that though, it went terribly wrong for the Rebels in a hurry.
Jordan Ta’amu was able to make decently strong plays down the field in the second half, but the defense wasn’t able to make enough plays to keep the game in spitting distance.
The Aggies won the time of possession battle, again, and this time that was a big part of their victory at Kyle Field. The Rebel defense got tired as the second half wore on and it showed. As it was said in the post game show as CBS prepared for Alabama vs. Mississippi State: Ole Miss couldn’t stop a nosebleed with a bag of ice in the second half.
