Texas Tech football overcame a 17-point fourth quarter deficit, but came up just short in a 41-34 loss to Texas.

Texas Tech suffered their third consecutive agonizing loss as a furious late rally fell just short on Saturday night against rival Texas.

Trailing 34-17 with just over 10-minutes to play, Texas Tech QB Jett Duffey engineered the comeback, leading the Red Raiders on three consecutive scoring drives. They tied the game with just under two-minutes remaining as Duffey hit Antoine Wesley on a nine-yard touchdown.

Texas Tech’s defense, which held up about as well as could have been expected with the litany of mistakes made by the offense, could not make one final stand to get the ball back in Duffey’s hands with a chance to win the game, or to force overtime.

Texas’ Sam Ehlinger hit Lil’Jordan Humphrey on a 29-yard touchdown pass with 21-seconds to play to give the Longhorns the 41-34 victory.

It was a familiar script for Texas Tech in defeat, as three turnovers and a bevy of penalties proved costly once again, dropping them to 5-5 on the season. The Red Raiders will have to knock off Kansas State on the road, or win a neutral site decision over Baylor to garner bowl eligibility.

Here’s three takeaways from Texas Tech’s loss:
