2019 NFL Mock Draft: Projected first round after Week 11
By Phil Poling
Have you read a single 2019 NFL Mock Draft that doesn’t have the New York Giants finding Eli Manning‘s replacement at quarterback? Oregon’s Justin Herbert appears to be the No. 1 signal-caller with the potential of turning pro, and would be a nice complement to last year’s No. 1 pick, Saquon Barkley.
Barkley was chosen second overall in 2018, which seemed high for a running back, but he’s produced at an equally-high level in his first season. The passing game in New York has suffered, with star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. being vocal about it at times, but he’s turned in five 100-yard performances in 2018.
Herbert possesses elite size, standing 6-foot-6, but has been up-and-down in 2018 for the Ducks. In their three non-conference games to start the year, Herbert’s completion percentage jumped from 47.6 percent to 76.9 percent, then back down to 47.1. He tossed five touchdown passes in the opener (along with two interceptions), but managed at least 250 yards in each contest.
PAC-12 play has been sub-par for Herbert, though, as he’s averaged only 249 pass yards per game and hasn’t thrown more than two touchdowns in any single conference game. He’s already faced Stanford, California, Washington, and Washington State, though, so you could see a spike in his numbers over the final few weeks of the season.
