3. Johnnie Lang, RB

With star running back David Montgomery having just been ejected, Baylor’s offense appearing to be on track and his team leading by 13, Johnnie Lang stepped up in a big way.

Lang, a freshman from Palmetto, Florida, didn’t let the chilly weather get the better of him. He took a handoff from fellow freshman Brock Purdy and weaved his way to the end zone for an 8-yard touchdown run, which provided Iowa State with some more cushion and a 28-7 lead.

Last year, Lang carried the ball four times for five yards, earning a redshirt. And while he has just 19 carries for 56 yards this season playing behind all-conference back Montgomery, he is a bright spot for the future and was a steady hand when they needed it.

Should the ejection hold up and Montgomery is forced to sit out Saturday’s first half vs. Texas, Lang could be in line to pair up with Purdy in the backfield. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry against Baylor, hit best mark of his career to date.
