Iowa State Football: 5 players who earned Blitz Stickers in Week 11
By Dana Becker
5. Marcel Spears Jr.; Willie Harvey; Mike Rose, LBs
Sure, Baylor might have had no trouble moving the ball against Iowa State’s super-tough defense this past weekend, racking up over 500 yards, but when they needed to, the Cyclones stepped up.
Iowa State kept the Bears out of the end zone until late in the third quarter, forcing two missed field goals by Baylor and helping them secure a fifth consecutive Big 12 victory. The Cyclones also reached that magic number of six with the win, giving them another bowl berth under head coach Matt Campbell.
When Baylor and Charlie Brewer found themselves inside the 20, who was it that stepped in to make a play? Likely one of the linebackers in Marcel Spears Jr., Willie Harvey and Mike Rose, who combined for 27 tackles.
Spears led the team this past week, recording 10 tackles, of which six were solo stops. He also had a half-a-tackle for loss, with Harvey in on nine tackles and Rose eight. Rose also had half-a-sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and a hurry of Brewer.
As a collective unit, Iowa State had one sack, three tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries. More importantly, though, they allowed just 14 points to be scored on them a week after allowing just three points vs. Kansas.
