Alabama football remained in the No. 1 spot of the College Football Playoff rankings, and regardless of what happens, the Tide are a lock for the playoff.

Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings were anything but exciting for teams at the top, but the Alabama Crimson Tide held on to their No. 1 position for the third straight week. Can anybody knock them down a peg?

The Crimson Tide continued their winning ways against a 6-3 Mississippi State team who, following their loss to Alabama, moved to just two games over .500. The Bulldogs somehow remained in the Top 25, but they do play in the SEC.

Alabama’s offense only managed three scoring drives against the now-6-4 Bulldogs, but don’t fret Tide fans – you’ve got a cupcake coming this Saturday.

Nick Saban’s defense continued their streak of consecutive quarters without surrendering a point, though – stretching it to nine (two full games!) – and the Tide expects much of the same with The Citadel heading to Tuscaloosa.

Having said all that, Alabama is a lock for the College Football Playoff whether you’ve realized it or not. And I’ll give you three reasons why, even if they seem a bit obvious.
