Bowl season is quickly approaching and Washington football could be headed to the New Year’s Six. What are the Huskies’ likely bowl scenarios?
Beginning the 2018 season with a top-10 matchup against No. 9 Auburn, Washington got a feel for how well the campaign would go. Unfortunately, neither team has lived up to preseason hype following the Tigers’ season-opening win. The Huskies are just 7-3 and the Tigers are no longer ranked.
Chris Petersen’s squad may be one of the best in the Pac-12 still, but this has been one of the worst seasons for the conference in recent memory.
The Huskies won five straight games after losing to Auburn and it looked like they might put together a playoff run, but they’ve since lost 2-of-4 games to Oregon and Cal to drop to 7-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. They’ll need a big win at No. 8 Washington State to close out the season in order to win the North division.
The talent is there with Jake Browning leading the way and the defense has been as good as advertised, but there just don’t seem to be as many weapons surrounding the offense as there were, say, a year ago. While Browning has been solid, his numbers aren’t exactly eye-popping with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions to his name.
If Washington can make it to the Pac-12 Championship Game, it will be in line to receive the conference’s best bowl game. There’s still plenty on the line for 2018.
