As the college football season comes down to the wire, most of the important games are easily identified. Here are a few games that you may have missed.
Weekly, I attempt to reiterate that “under-the-radar” games are not necessarily the same thing as games where a team is on “upset alert”. However this week, it sort of ends up playing out that way simply due to the way any given team is perceived.
The best way to describe this is by example.
3. Duke at No. 2 Clemson
It will be incredibly difficult for the Duke Blue Devils to, fly into Clemson, and knock off the number two team in the country. Although, here is why Duke being a 28 point underdog is a complete mistake.
Duke started off the season 4-0, then 5-1, and looked like one of the best teams in the ACC early on in the season. Currently, they are on a two-game win streak after beating UNC at home and winning an away game at Miami.
Earlier in the college football season, Clemson nearly lost to Texas A&M in College Station, and to Syracuse at home. Syracuse only has one more win than Duke and lost to Pitt by only two fewer points than Duke did. The point is, Duke and Syracuse may be comparable in some senses. And therefore, Duke could have a fighting chance against the Clemson Tigers this weekend.
This game has the possibility to be much, much closer than 28 points.
