1. Matt Campbell, Giant Slayer

One of the many things Matt Campbell has done since he arrived in Ames is consistently made Iowa State a threat to ranked teams. His first year showcased losses to ranked opponents such as Baylor and Oklahoma State where Iowa State led most of the game but could not seal the deal. Last year, Iowa State upset Oklahoma in Norman, handing the Sooners their only loss in the regular season, and then upset fourth-ranked TCU at home.

The Cyclones have continued the giant-killer trend as they absolutely housed then-sixth-ranked West Virginia at home in a 30-14 domination of the Mountaineers and they now have a shot to upset Texas in Austin. I know for sure Campbell will have his guys prepared to play in front of the 100,000-person crowd at DKR-Memorial Stadium. He knows how to scheme for these top teams and will have his schemes fine tuned for Saturday night.

This is a game that many Cyclone fans have waited their who lives for, even my grandfather, who bought season tickets for the Cyclones in the early 70s under Johnny Majors, hasn’t been this excited for an Iowa State game in a long time. The Cyclones have a chance to do something special and they will do just that.
