5. Irish rushing attack

For most of the season, Notre Dame’s rushing attack has been hitting on all cylinders. Current starting running back Dexter Williams was suspended for the first four games In his absence, Tony Jones Jr., and Jafar Armstrong did an effective job of filling in.

When Williams returned against Virginia Tech, he played as if he hadn’t missed a beat, rushing for nearly 200 yards and three touchdowns.

This season, Williams has accumulated 770 yards in rushing in only six games, averaging 128 yards per game this season and if he were to average that over the next two games, would still surpass the 1,000 yard mark in just eight games. Tony Jones Jr., has been the second leading rusher with 367 yards and Armstrong is right on his tail, rushing for 359 yards and six touchdowns.

If the field conditions are poor on Saturday due to the wintry weather and the lack of underground heating at Yankee Stadium, the Notre Dame rushing game will play a crucial role against Syracuse.
