Ohio State Football: 3 likely bowl scenarios for Buckeyes in 2018
By Shane Lunnen
With the end of the regular season within sight, the bowl season will be in full swing soon. What are Ohio State football’s likely postseason destinations?
Ohio State’s season started off odd with Urban Meyer sidelined for three games due to his suspension for his handling (or mishandling) of the Zach Smith fiasco. Offensive coordinator Ryan Day filled in as interim coach for those first three games and the Buckeyes came out unscathed against Oregon State, Rutgers and TCU.
After another tune-up win against Tulane, the Buckeyes traveled to Happy Valley to face Penn State and their annual White Out. It was the most adversity the Buckeyes had faced to date. They performed marvelously late in the fourth quarter by overcoming a 12-point deficit to beat the Lions by a single point for the second consecutive season.
As October rolled on, the Buckeyes picked up fairly easy victories against Indiana and Minnesota. But the hopes of an undefeated season came crashing down in West Lafayette. Purdue racked up over 530 yards total offense and scored 49 points in a huge 29-point rout of the Buckeyes.
Perhaps the Purdue game was the wakeup call the Buckeyes would need to get their season on track. But after an off week, they had a funny way of showing it against Nebraska. The Huskers led the Buckeyes by five points at halftime and even though Ohio State did go on to win by five points, they never looked comfortable or impressive in the game. The win against Nebraska was followed by a win against Michigan State that Ohio State needed the fourth quarter to pull away.
9-1 is where the Buckeyes stand with two games to go. They travel to Maryland which should be a win and then return home for their annual rivalry matchup with Michigan. There are a few bowl scenarios for the Buckeyes so let us look at the top three.
