The offense for Oklahoma State football seems to be moving into another era already at running back with the emergence of Chuba Hubbard.

This is one of the most interesting and confusing seasons for fans of the Oklahoma State football program in 2018. Between the highs and lows of beating the Texas Longhorns and the heartbreaking defeat in Bedlam against the Oklahoma Sooners, this is a true roller coaster ride for Oklahoma State football fans this fall.

This fall, Oklahoma State football saw some real breakthroughs on offense that were rather unexpected. In the wake of the departures of skill position players like quarterback Mason Rudolph, and wide receivers James Washington and Marcell Ateman, this offense was expected to take a pretty big step back.

However, Oklahoma State saw a few offensive players emerge in a big way this year that fans thought might take another year or two to develop. Oklahoma State is one of those teams that doesn’t tend to “reload” like other programs such as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ohio State Buckeyes are able to do.

Head Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy saw some of his younger skill position players flourish before his eyes this season. That list would highlight sophomore wide receiver Tylan Wallace and redshirt freshman running back Chuba Hubbard. Wallace is definitely a year ahead of schedule for his progression since he is already a Biletnikoff Award candidate this year.

Meanwhile, Hubbard spent most of the season backing up star junior running back Justice Hill. But, some injuries to Hill and another Oklahoma State running back L.D. Brown gave Hubbard a shot at a bigger workload. He’s made the most of it so far.

Here’s a look at three reasons why Chuba Hubbard gives the Oklahoma State Cowboys exactly what it needs at this point in time.
