Both Virginia Tech and Florida State are in danger of missing a bowl for the first time in decades. Which other teams might see bowl streaks die in 2018?

Nothing lasts forever. Streaks only really reveal their significance in retrospect, and even the most legendary powerhouses inevitably suffer a down year sooner or later. That is as true of teams earning bowl eligibility year after year as it is of other streaks, both in college football and in sports more generally.

It is for this reason why only 10 different teams around the country can boast bowl streaks of at least 10 games. And just 10 more teams have gone to between six and nine straight bowl games.

In many ways, it is this ignominious battle for irrelevance that makes 2018 so interesting in this perspective. Two different bowl participation streaks could die this season. A pair of ACC schools are in danger of letting multi-decade streaks come to an end, unless they can win out the rest of the season.

Beyond the fortunes of Florida State and Virginia Tech, though, four other Power Five schools with at least six or more consecutive postseason appearances are in danger of seeing their streaks die this year. Who might miss out on a bowl game and reset the odometer on their consecutive appearances?
