Navy is the one Group of Five team on this list, and the Midshipmen are already guaranteed to miss the postseason in 2018. With two games left to play, Ken Niumatalolo‘s team has already sustained eight defeats and has absolutely no chance to get to six victories this year. It will be the first time missing a bowl since the program was still independent in 2011.

Mid-major programs are always in danger of these types of cyclical fluctuations. But Navy has been a model of consistency over the years, both when they were still independent and after joining the American Athletic Conference.

Though they are the sixth-best team in the country in terms of time of possession, the Midshipmen still rank outside the top 100 in the FBS in yards generated and yards allowed. They score on average 11.1 fewer points than the defense gives up. And because of it, a six-year bowl streak is guaranteed to end.
